Current Projects
The association continued its effort to manage the cormorant population in 2024. On May 9, our partners from the from the USDA completed a day of shooting resulting in a reduction of about 1900 cormorants. This was the biggest number in recent years surpassing the 2023 number of 1400 birds; 2022 was about 1300 and 2021 was about 1050. The overall costs of this project continue to increase annually and are currently over $6,000. A special thanks to Mel Canfield for coordinating this important project.
The APM program utilized mechanical harvesting in 2021, 2022 and 2023. This program cleared weeds for about 4-6 weeks from late June through mid-August. Since Coontail weeds are not a rooted plant and float around the lake, the cleared areas would slowly fill back in over the summer. The summer flooding in 2024 caused us to change our approach and utilize chemical treatment. The Board is working with Limnopro on a long-term strategy for chemical treatment of the lakes. Watch for more information for 2025!
